The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America is a Jewish denomination in the United States. It is composed of Orthodox Jewish congregations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
History
The Union was founded by Jewish congregations in 1924 as the Orthodox Union, but was renamed to the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations in 1975.
The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America has approximately 150 congregations, which are the basis of eight synagogues, and with over 12,000 members, ranks as one of the largest Orthodox Jewish congregations in the United States.
Mission statement
The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (UOJCA) is a non-profit corporation, whose goals are the support of Jewish learning and religious observance and the advancement of the Jewish people, and the promotion of social service and educational activities in the Orthodox Jewish community.
The Union acts as a spokesperson for the Orthodox Jewish community and represents Orthodox interests to the public. The Union publishes the Ha'aretz newspaper and collaborates with such organizations as Jewish Federations and the Jewish Agency for Israel.
The Union maintains close ties with the Jewish Theological Seminary and the American Jewish University. The Union works with the Rabbinical Council of America, the umbrella organization for Orthodox rabbis.
The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2004.

UOJCA also has ties to the Organization of Rabbis of the United States and Canada (ORUUS), with which it shares the title of "National Council of Young Israel".
